The History of Kleeneze
The
history of Kleeneze starts with a man named Harry Crook,
who was born in 1889. Whilst seeking his fortune in America
in the early 20th Century, he was employed by the Fuller
Brush Company. This gave him an idea about starting his
own company, and after his return to England in 1923, he
set up his own brush business called the Kleen-E-Ze Brush
Company, based in Bristol.

The
first major milestone in the company came in 1930 when despite
the negative economic conditions, the annual turnover topped
£1 million for the first time.
In
1937 the company introduced wax polishes to compliment the
brushes. Twelve years later, in 1959, Kleeneze made industrial
history by becoming the first company to introduce the 40
hour week.

More change in 1970 as Kleeneze became one of the first
companies in the UK to pioneer network marketing. This was
considered a radical step at the time, but one they have
never regretted as the business then went on from strength
to strength. In fact, since its inception in 1923, Kleeneze
has made a profit every single year.
The
first Kleeneze catalogue, called ‘Shopping at Home’ – was
produced in 1982. This replaced the door to door salesman
with his suitcase, who became the new door to door salesman
with his catalogue.
After
celebrating their 75th anniversary in 1998, Kleeneze extended
its field of operation into the Republic of Ireland and
changed its name to Kleeneze Europe Limited. This was seen
as the start of a much longer term European expansion plan.
True
to predictions, Kleeneze expanded into mainland Europe,
by launching its business in Holland
in Sep 2004, and then on into Germany
in May 2006.
